Cancuén and Dos Pilas monuments introduction

The Mundo Maya Regional Museum (Figure 1) in Tayasal, Guatemala, holds four exquisite pieces from Cancuén (three circular ballcourt markers and a remarkably pristine “cookie cutter” panel) in addition to a panel fragment from Dos Pilas (Figure 2). I photographed them on Sunday April 27, 2025. (No thickness measurements were possible due to the method of mounting the pieces.)
