Ana Patricia Martínez Huchim, known to her friends as Pati, died of cancer on July 27 this year, only 54 years old. A native of Tizimin, Yucatan, she was a bright light in the movement to promote Maya language and culture. Her spirit illumined any room she walked into, her smile outshown the embroidered flowers she always wore, her intelligence and kindness uplifted us all.
With the blessings of her family, we are posting her magazine K’aaylay (published 2006-2010) as a memorial tribute to Pati. This on-line magazine embodies the personality of Pati herself: bright, colorful, humorous, happily giving voice to her colleagues, and deeply celebrating the culture and language of native Yucatan.

Ana Patricia Martínez Huchim, o “Pati”, como la conocían sus amigos cercanos, falleció de cáncer el pasado 27 de julio de este año, con tan sólo 54 años de edad. Nacida en Tizimín, Yucatán, fue una luz brillante en el movimiento para promover la lengua y la cultura maya. Su espíritu iluminaba cualquier espacio en el que estuviera, su sonrisa opacaba a las flores bordadas que siempre llevaba en sus blusas, su inteligencia y su bondad nos levantaban el espíritu a todos los que entrábamos en contacto con ella.
Con el permiso de su familia, publicamos su revista K’aaylay (que apareció entre los años 2006 y 2010) como homenaje a Pati. Esta revista encarna la personalidad misma de Pati: brillante, colorida, con gran sentido del humor, dando con alegría voz a sus colegas, celebrando con profundidad la cultura y el lenguaje de su Yucatán nativo.
